Die Cuts and Die Cutting

Die cut printing is a process where die cutting is used to generate big amounts of the same shape in materials such as wood, plastic, metal or fabric to create a finished product. The shapes are often called blanks and are usually finished as decorated items before being sold. Many printers use specially designed blades to cut the desired shape on the material. After it is cut, the material is then placed on a flat surface where there is another material to support it. The die is then pressed onto the material to cut it.

The die cuts then are shapes and letters in your die cut printing that are scored from pieces of your paper stock which were either with the help of a machine or sometimes, by hand. Usually, die cuts are made in paper crafts and can be used to design greeting cards, scrapbook projects, and even marketing collaterals such as postcards.

As scrapbook crafts became very popular, die cuts have also been in style as they are used to embellish and adorn the layouts of the scrapbooks. In fact, die cuts became widely accepted as a form of decorative designs that many paper crafters use regularly.

The die cuts are very flexible especially in paper crafting that they can be utilized in die cut printing jobs using a computer and laser printer. The image can be downloaded from any die cut printing website and then sent to the printer for reproduction. Then the paper crafter cuts the shapes out by hand with a pair of scissors or by a die cut machine.

Die cuts are also popular for jigsaw puzzles. They can be pieced together in order to create a much larger image. They can also be decorated with color markers and pens to create a more dimensional effect. For a more distinct look, you can always go for distressed edges.

For an easier time of having ready-made die cuts, stores and craft shops are offering pre-cut shapes. You can choose from a wide variety that many stores have made available. However, many of the stores carry die cuts with limited sizes, colors and images. For many crafters, they often cut their die cuts at home with the help of a die cut machine, which is available in just about any craft store.

As always, you need to shop around for the die cuts you need. There are many die cut items and stores carrying this stuff. As long as you check out the stores that carry these special items, you can always find stuff that is appropriate to your needs as well as your budget.

The Epson 11880 Giclee Printer : New Series Just Released

In response to the recent release of formidable 60″ giclee printers from Canon and Hewlett-Packard, Epson has now responded with a 64″ model, the Epson professional 11880 inkjet printer. The inkjet printer marketplace has become so competitive that these Original Equipment Manaufacturers are introducing brand new printer technology bi-annually. The Epson 11880 Printer is the first ever Epson the new release of a printer broader than theirtremendously successful 44″ size, as seen on the Epson 9800, Epson Stylus Pro 9600, Epson 10000, and giclee printer. This is an big benefit to assembly-oriented facilities who favor the quality and track record of the Epson brand name, but urgently require the extra width. Given that Canon and HP printers are only 60″ wide, the inkjet printer offers an extra four inches in width which could verify a deciding reason in costumer evaluation. The sense is that if one can decide between two reasonably comparable printers at the same price point why not invest this huge sum of money into a printer that offers larger capability

As most specialists know, the truth is that none of these wide format printers from Canon, HP, and Epson are all alike. Granted the reasoning of them and the market they provide is similar, but the mechanical structure and competence of the inkjet printer vary significantly. The Epson 11880 was exclusively developed the explanation to these technologigical voids when compared topast printer model releases. The result of such an approach is a market flooded with old outdated Epson printers such as the inkjet printer, and the Epson 10000, printers, and a lotof entrepreneurs speculate how they are going to battle for and differentiate themselves. Although this might make some poor publicity for Epson, in such a spirited arena does Epson really have a choice?

If you are a custom card maker like me, you are going to enjoy this cricut cartridge. That is why I thought it would be cool to do this wild card cricut catridge review. The Wild Card cricut cartridge allows for so many possibilities.

With really cool shaped cards and coordinating envelopes with envelope liners for every occasion, this cricut cartridge is every card maker’s dream. How Many Different Rubberstamps are There in the Big World of Art Stamps?

For me it all started with these rubberstamps. That’s right this cute little butterfly art stamp and this set of alphabet stamps.

I can remember my first rubberstamps. My brother gave them to me for my birthday. It was a butterfly art stamp, and an alphabet stamp set, that was 15 years ago. I can remember thinking to myself “what am I going to do with these rubberstamps”? Boy did I find out what to do with them. I made cute little butterfly note cards and I remember coloring them with a colored pencil (since that is all that I had back then or crayons), then with the alphabet stamps I stamped my family and friends name and of course finished it with a butterfly. Holy crow, he is the one that created my obsession with art stamps, and I am so happy that he did, thanks Mike.

What can I say; I Love Rubber Art Stamps and all the rubber stamping supplies that go along with them. Take a look at just some of the art stamps that I have. I have labeled each drawer and bin so I kind of know what is inside. I also have a few scattered around my craft studio on shelves. I told you that I Love Art Stamps. Now do you believe me?

Rubberstamps have come a long way. There are a ton of manufacturers for Art Stamps, depending on what you are looking for. A long time ago the only kind of art stamp that was available was the red rubber stamp mounted on a wood block. Now, those stamps are still available but there are also clear un-mounted art stamps that you take off of a cling sheet and adhere to an acrylic block. When you are done you just clean the stamp and take off the acrylic block and out back on the plastic sheet or in a clear plastic CD case.

The great thing about these art stamps is that you can see exactly where your image will be stamped on your card stock. This gives you less room for error (even though there is never an error in art, it just makes a different masterpiece then you expected)

What I love about the acrylic block rubber stamps is when you are working with alphabet stamps. The reason is you can have the correct spacing between each letter and word. When I have used alphabet stamps that were wood mounted, I usually had crooked words and phrases on my card or scrapbook page.

Another cool thing about these clear un-mounted rubberstamps is that they do not take up so much room as the original wood block art stamps. So if you do not have a lot of space to store your rubberstamps then this is the ideal way to go. I have two ways that I store my clear un-mounted rubberstamps. One is in a 3 ring binder, and the other in my Crop in Style Stamp Store tote. The stamp store can hold hundreds in the drawers.

There are also red rubber un-mounted stamps that you can purchase. They are cheaper than mounted rubberstamps. You can then mount them any way that you want; either on a wood block or use the ez-mount foam system (I will explain that in a near future article)

The last kind of rubberstamps that I can think of is the pre-inked art stamps. I have some art stamps that are pre-inked wheels. They are great for backgrounds or borders. All you do is insert the small cartridge of ink into the handle of the rubberstamps wheel, insert the wheel and away you go.

Well, as you can see I have A LOT of rubberstamps. And with all these Art Stamps I do not have any duplicates and I can honestly say that I use or have used each and every one.

10 Great Gift Ideas With scrapbooking

Have you ever wondered what kind of gift to get for that someone special on Valentine’s Day? How about a scrapbooking album depicting your romance from the time you met until now? I know I would certainly enjoy something that special!

Organizing Your Scrapbook Paper

If there were one common denominator aside from their passion to scrapbooking, you would immediately know that theirs is the weakness on papers. From patterned and plain papers to unique cardstocks, we normally make use of the logic “buy the paper now and the inspiration will come after”. And for the moment, your scrapbooking will lay scrap by scrap or page by page, waiting to be used.

If you don’t have a photographic memory (which most of us don’t have) it is best that you store you scrapbooking papers in more organized manners. Or else, you might find yourself lost with “out of sight, outs of mind” brain. You might already have a huge collection of paper stacks but not knowing it. A waste of an investment. And besides, it is always a good practice to get organized to really know what your resources are.

We can’t forever buy papers and store them in disarray. And buy another set and go on with that same process. Somehow, clutter must stop.

We cannot exactly provide you with strict guidelines of storage. In scrapbooking, so long as the methods fits you, it will work. Let’s move out from the box and do our own things in our own ways.

We have covered some general techniques here, which you may apply. Only you have to fill in the gaps if you require some modifications.

Most scrappers find it hard to know their organizing style. In general, you have two options. One, that is horizontal stacking and the other, vertical. It ill always be your preference to choose. There is no best way for everyone and you can do whatever fits your case.

Most stores keep their papers in horizontal stacking, either by racks or by shelves. This is largely because they are equipped with much space to work with. Unfortunately, most of us don’t have that enough space so the best solution would be to furnish snap top cases for better organization. Not only are these cases great for paper stacking, they also work well for storing other scrapbooking materials that you normally or presently use.

If you have no other option but to store your papers in horizontal formats, you may always try using vertical solutions.  Storing papers vertically works best for cardstocks and for papers that you often use. Storage papers for vertical positioning normally comes with dividers, thus the capacity to store multiple files all at the same place. Just be reminded though that this method will require you tall shelves.

Second, you must know what kind of scrapbooker are you when it comes to shopping papers. There are again, two types. One, the organized people and the other are those that adhere with any-thing-goes principles.

The organized group are those buyers ho take time to bring with them photos and memorabilias as reference for when buying. They browse aisles by aisle and choose specific types of papers according to their immediate needs, matching their choices with the materials that they have.

And these people will most likely gather sample die cuts and embellishments and stick-ons for each planned page. Thus, they tend to choose the right pieces together for their possible layouts. At the end, they will collect other stiffs that will match their themes.

The unorganized group though is the exact opposite. They arrive at the store with hardly an idea to focus to. They would grab random kinds of scrapbooking papers depending on what catches their eye. While tossing cool and pretty papers, they would soon realize that the cardstocks at the next eye “might” be of future use. Lastly, they’ll run to the register and the whole thing is over. Once they start the project, they’ll soon discover that several things are missing.

The second attitude is easier to do, however you must learn to accept the risks. The first one obviously will require you to plan prior to shopping but will create lesser chances of committing mistakes. If you are dealing with scrapbooking papers, it will always prove best to choose the latter one.

Organization of papers will require you to pay attention to details. The more chaotic your files get, the more attention you will have to invest. It is far less time consuming in the end to start organizing stuffs and keep things that way than to organize and reorganize over and over again. Cricut Cutting Machine:  Versatility in Cutting

The Cricut Cutting Machine was just what I’d been looking for.  I’m a TV products addict…I’m always looking at the As seen On TV commercials with the eye to buy.  So when I saw the Cricut Expression Machine advertised, I was interested for many reasons.  After doing some research on different cutting machines, we did buy the Cricut Expression Cutting Machine.

Cricut for Fun
First of all, I’m a grandparent with two of my granddaughters living around the corner.  We’re always looking for things to allow us to become more involved with them.  The Cricut’s ability to create all types of artistic projects for fun and for school, is a great way for Gramps and Mimi to be able to enter their world productively.  For example, after they got back from their visit to Disney World, we had a great time using the Cricut Disney Mickey and Friends Cartridge to make a poster of all the fun things they did on their trip.  For Mother’s Day, we experimented with flowers from the Walk in my Garden Cartridge and found some neat script to complete the message for their Mother’s Day card.

Cricut for School
They took their Disney poster to school for “show & tell”.  That afternoon, we got a call from their teacher wanting to know about the Cricut Cutting Machine and what it could do.  Although we’re still learning and experimenting with all the features, we invited her over to look at our machine.  When she came over, we showed her the 50 States and the Cursive 101 Cartridges that we were using for projects with our granddaughters, and we made a neat banner for her classroom using the Disney Pooh & Friends Cartridge.

Cricut for Profit?
Our daughter-in-law is extremely creative.  She has a knack for putting together great themed birthday parties for the kids.  The last one she did for her five year old daughter(who really believes she is a princess) was themed around…what else…a princess.  She hired a model to dress as a princess to come over and do the girls’ hair, a little make-up and fingernail polish.  All the little girls and their mothers were impressed not only by the theme, but by all the apropos shapes and themed cut-outs she was able to do on the Cricut Cutting Machine using the Once Upon A Princess Cartridge.  Afterwards, she was asked to do two themed parties for her friends, and they are insisting on paying her a decent amount for doing the decorations and shapes.  Could be the start of a nice little business for her.

For us as a family, the Cricut Cutting Machine has been well worth the bucks, as it has given us a new hobby and the joy of helping our granddaughters be creative.
